What's Inside a Starlight Room Kit? Full Checklist

A Room Starlight Ceiling Kit is built around one idea: you give us a ceiling size, and the box contains the exact whole-panel configuration for it. Nothing to calculate at the counter, nothing to thread by hand. Here is what arrives, what each part does, and — just as important — what the kit deliberately does not include.

1. The star panels

The bulk of the box. Each kit ships the whole-panel configuration that matches its ceiling size, prioritising 2x4 ft panels and adding a single 2x2 ft panel only where the geometry requires one. Panels are low-profile with a black acoustic-grade face, and the fiber tips are pre-placed in randomized patterns so no two panels repeat.

Two things follow from this. First, the configuration is fixed for the size you order — no cutting allowance and no spare panels are included. Second, because the fibers carry only light and no electricity, there are no electronics at the ceiling to fail.

2. The Starlight Controller

Every kit includes one Starlight Controller per 30 panels. It is the light engine and the brain: it feeds every fiber bundle, drives brightness, twinkle speed and scene effects, and pairs with the app. It runs on safe 12V low-voltage power and mounts out of sight — at the ceiling edge, above a closet, or beside an AV rack.

One controller covers almost every residential ceiling. If you later expand with individual panels, the same controller drives them up to that 30-panel limit.

3. Power and mounting hardware

The low-voltage power supply and the mounting hardware for the panels in your configuration are included. Check the delivered kit against its packing list before work begins — the packing list and the printed instructions supplied with your specific kit are the authoritative record of contents, not this article.

What the kit does not include

• Spare or cutting allowance panels. The configuration matches the stated ceiling size exactly. Panels should not be cut, trimmed or modified on site.
• Electrical work. The system is low-voltage and installs DIY-style, but any mains work near the controller location is outside the kit.
• Ceiling grid or framing. Panels mount flush to a standard fixed ceiling with the supplied system, or drop into an existing 2 ft suspended grid. The grid itself is not supplied.
• A second controller unless your configuration exceeds 30 panels.

Before you open the boxes

Confirm four things against your plan: the panel format and count, the proposed mounting method for your actual ceiling type, the controller location, and the cable route to the intended power location. If any project condition is not covered by the supplied instructions, contact support before proceeding rather than improvising.

Can the kit be dropped into an existing suspended ceiling grid?

The 2x2 ft panel format fits a standard T-grid opening. The kit itself does not include the grid or framing - only the panels, controller, and mounting hardware for the panels.

Is the controller compatible across kit sizes?

Yes, it's the same Starlight Controller across the whole product line, sized by how many are included per kit rather than by a different model per size.
